Satu  Cerita  Penanganan Konflik (kasus 2007)

Siang mendekati sore seekor harimau terlihat masuk desa. Masyarakat yang menggunakan jalan tersebut banyak yang melihat keberadan harimau  ini.  Karena terlihat jinak, sehingga semakin sore bertambah banyak masyarakat yang datang melihat.  Beberapa orang bahkan mengambil photo harimau dengan menggunakan handpone dari jarak sekitar 2-3 m saja, sehingga banyaklah sepeda motor dan mobil di dekat harimau yang tidur-tiduran di semak pinggir jalan.    Suatu ketika harimau tersebut mengaum dan berjalan mendekati masyarakat yang menonoton, maka masyarakat pada berlarian dengan tidak sempat menghidupkan  sepeda motornya.    Beberapa orang terluka karena terjatuh di jalan berbatu.    Harimau tersebut menggigit ban mobil sampai pecah serta juga mencakar dan menggigit apa saja yang dijumpainya.   Beberapa ban sepeda motor juga pecah digigit harimau ini, bahkan sendal masyarakat yang tertinggal karena berlari juga ikut digigit.     Setelah menggigit sendal dan membawanya ke semak, harimau ini kembali istirahat;  masyarakat pun kembali berkumpul melihat lalu kembali berlarian saat harimau berjalan mendekat.  Begitu terus terjadi dua tiga kali dari sore sampai malam.

Melihat keadaan tersebut, untuk menghindari jatuhnya korban maka kepala desa menghubungi tim PKHS dan resort BKSDA.   Sekitar Pukul 9 malam tim PKHS dan KSDA sampai di lokasi, masyarakat  masih banyak berkumpul.    Tim PKHS melihat harimau di semak-semak dengan menggunakan lampu senter, ”ini aneh, kok harimaunya jinak dan tiduran terus”, pikir anggota tim.   Perangkap kotak pun dipasang di badan jalan yang juga tidak jauh dari areal  HTI.  Sebelum perangkap selesai dipasang harimau berjalan menuju perangkap, padahal pintu perangkap saja belum dibuka.   Harimau berdiri di samping perangkap, dengan berbekal keberanian dan dari atas mobil, anggota tim membuka pintu perangkap agar harimau masuk.  Setelah pintu terbuka, harimau malah pergi menjauh. 

Karena keadaan lokasi yang luas maka sulit untuk menggiring harimau menuju ke satu titik.  Harimau  berjalan semaunya sendiri, dan sekitar setiap setengah jam beristirahat, karena itu tim mengambil kesimpulan bahwa harimau ini sakit, juga karena tubuh harimau yang terlihat sangat kurus.   Kemudian perangkap diberi umpan ayam, maka harimau kembali mendatangi perangkap akan tetapi dari samping.  Melihat hal ini tim berinisiatif menggunakan jaring yang memang ada di mobil.   Jaring dilempar, akan tetapi hanya mengenai bagian kepala harimau sedang badannya masih bebas.    Kemudian jaring ini digigit oleh harimau, tim lalu menarik jaring yang diarahkan ke pintu perangkap.   Ternyata, walaupun dalam keadaan sakit tenaga harimau memang sangat kuat, anggota tim kalah dalam tarik menarik jaring dengan harimau dan jaring rusak karena digigit dan dicakar harimau.

Waktu terus berjalan dan bertambah malam, masyarakat semakin tidak sabar.  Beberapa orang mengusulkan agar ditembak saja (mereka pikir tim PKHS mempunyai senjata), yang lainnya mulai berbicara kasar kepada tim PKHS karena belum berhasil menangkap harimau.    Melihat keadaan tersebut, diputuskan perangkap dipindah ke  jembatan serta sisi kiri dan kanan perangkap dipasang terpal, sehingga perangkap merupakan satu-satunya jalan jika harimau akan menyeberang.     Setelah itu, harimau yang masih berkeliaran di sekitar lokasi digiring menuju perangkap, dengan cara mendorong tubuh harimau dengan mengunakan mobil, ada sekitar 3 mobil yang menggepung dan mengarahkan jalan harimau ini.   Akhirnya, sekitar pukul 01.45 wib pada hari Senin harimau ini masuk ke dalam perangkap.   

Atas permintaan kepala desa, maka harimau tidak boleh langsung dibawa ke kantor KSDA, tetapi menunggu pagi agar masyarakat tahu bahwa harimau sudah ditangkap.   Hal ini juga penting sebagai pelajaran kepada masyarakat agar melapor jika ada konflik dengan harimau dan tidak mengambil tindakan sendiri.  Pagi harinya harimau dibawa ke kantor resort BKSDA  Riau, dan karena melihat tubuhnya sangat kurus maka oleh tim langsung dibawa ke dokter hewan terdekat  untuk dilakukan pengecekan dan pengobatan.  Setelah ditimbang berat tubuh harimau ini hanya 60 kg, karena itu perlu dilakukan  perawatan terlebih dahulu.     Selama 3 hari dalam perawatan dokter hewan, harimau ini hanya satu kali mau makan ayam, itupun tidak habis dan dimuntahkan kembali setelah beberapa saat.   Karena itu untuk memenuhi nutrisinya diberikan dalam bentuk cair (infus).  Akan tetapi, tiga hari setelah ditangkap sekitar pukul 05.30 wib harimau ini pun mati.

Kemudian dilakukan outopsi untuk memastikan penyebab kematian harimau,  dan diyakini malnutrisi merupakan penyebab kematian harimau yang masih remaja ini.   Hal ini terlihat dari usus yang telah dempet (karena terlalu lama kosong) bahkan  beberapa bagian telah mengalami luka.

Near the afternoon, a tiger is seen entering the village. Many people who use the road see  this tiger.  The  tiger  it looks tame, so  more and  more  people come to see.  Some people even took photos of tigers using cell phones from a distance of only 2-3 m, so there were lots of motorbikes and cars near tigers, and the tiger  sleeping on roadside bushes. One time the tiger roared and walked towards the people who stopped, so the people ran around with no chance to turn on the motorcycle. Some people were injured from falling on a rocky road. The tiger bit the tire of the car until it broke and also clawed and bit what he encountered. Some of the motorcycle tires were also bitten by the tiger, even the sandals that were left behind due to running were also bitten. After biting the sandals and bringing them to the bush, the tiger rested again; the peoples  gathered again to see and then ran back when the tiger approached. So it continues to happen three times from afternoon to night. 

With  this situation, to avoid casualties, the head of village contacted  the PKHS and  BKSDA (Bureau of Nature Resources Conservation ). Around 9 pm the PKHS and KSDA teams arrived at the location, the community still  a lot. The PKHS’s team saw tigers in the bush using a flashlight, "this is strange, how come the tiger  look like tame and continues to lie", thought the team member. Box traps were installed on the road body which was also not far from the HTI area. Before the trap is finished, the tiger goes to the trap, even though the trap door has not been opened yet. The tiger stood beside the trap, armed with courage and from the car, the team member opened the trap door so the tiger entered. After the door opened, the tiger went away.

Due to the wide location, it is difficult to lead tigers to one point. Tigers walk at their own pace, and about every half hour to rest, so the team concluded that this tiger was sick, also because the tiger's body looked very thin. Then the trap is given a chicken for tiger feed, then the tiger returns to the trap but from the side. Seeing this, the team took the initiative to use a net (that was in the car). The net is thrown, but only take  the tiger head, body  is still free. Then the net is bitten by a tiger, the team then pulls the net that is directed to the trap door. Apparently, even though in a state of tiger power it was very strong, the team members lost in pulling the net with tigers and nets damaged by being bitten and scratched by tigers.

As time went on and grew late, people became increasingly impatient. Some people suggested that they just be shot (they thought the PKHS team had weapons), others started talking harshly to the PKHS team because pkhs  had not  to catch the tiger. Seeing this situation, it was decided that the trap was moved to the bridge and the left and right sides of the trap were installed with a tarpaulin, so the trap was the only way if the tiger would cross. After that, the tigers that are still roaming around the site are led to the trap, we pushing the tiger body by using a car, there are  3 cars that surround and direct the tiger's path. Finally, around 1:45 am. on Monday this tiger entered a trap.

At the request of the head of  village, the tiger may not be taken directly to the  BKSDA office, but wait for the morning so that the community knows that the tiger has been captured. This is also important as a lesson for  the public to report if there is a conflict with the tiger and not take action themselves. In the morning the tiger was taken to the BKSDA resort office, and because we saw tiger’s body was very thin, the team was immediately taken to the nearest veterinarian for checking and treatment.  The tiger body weight is only 60 kg, because it needs to be treated first. For 3 days in veterinary care, this tiger only once wanted to eat chicken, and even then it did not run out and spit back. Because of that to fulfill its nutrition is given in the form of liquid (infusion). However, three days after being arrested around 5.30 am. the tiger died.

Then an autopsy was carried out to ascertain the cause of death of tigers, and it is believed that malnutrition was the cause of the death of a young tiger. This can be seen from the gut that has been attached (because it is too long empty) even some parts have suffered injuries.
